It may be commonknowledge, but perhaps not ... most of the town of Kailua is owned by the Castle Foundation and Kaneohe Ranch. They are the ones reasponsible for develping Kailua as a walking town, a vision that is coming true faster than we thought. We've heard rumors that the current bowling alley will be replaced ny a patk -- and we don't know if that is a park or a parking garage, but either way, we feel something good wil come of it,
Today, I drove to the very busy mall where out store is located and was once again reminded of Kaneohe Ranch;s forward thinking in removing the Aloha Gas Station and replacing it with a parking lot extension for this very busy mall. It is not JoniMirchell's "take paradise and make a parking lot" -- it was a necessary addition to the place, and actually opened up open space.!
Pretty soon our necessary world won't be more than a couple of blocks, but if you venture outside of Kaneohe Ranch's space, we recommend: Rah Rah Ramen, Lee and Jan's Studio Salon J, Yo Momma Yogurt, Olive (a cool clothing store) and Madison & Co., also called Philosophie I think ... Across the street on Uluniu is Hina'ea, with new ownership and same great serivce. Ihighly recommend the masseuse Alicia.
Venture even further out of the center of things, and you will find venerable Tamura's Market in Aikahi Shopping center replete with products both gourmet and local.
Anyway, there is much to see, do and eat in Kailua, and the good landlord which runs at least half the town is indeed a good landlord. Thank you Kaneohe Ranch.
